Golf Club Fitting
That Makes Sense

Player-first golf club fitting in Johannesburg and Paarl, built on data, logic, and properly built clubs.

A proper golf club fitting should help you hit the ball better, control it better, and trust your equipment more. It should not feel like a sales pitch with a launch monitor in the background.

"Clubs that fit
your swing,
not the other way around."

WHAT IS GOLF CLUB FITTING?

Golf club fitting is the process of matching golf clubs to the golfer, not asking the golfer to adapt endlessly to generic equipment.

That sounds obvious, but the industry has done a remarkable job of making obvious things sound revolutionary.

Most clubs sold off the rack are built to standard specifications intended for mass production, not individual performance. Length, lie angle, loft, shaft profile, swing weight, grip size and overall build can all influence how a club performs. If those details do not suit the player, the golfer often compensates without realising it. That can show up as poor strike, inconsistent distance, directional misses, or a swing that feels harder to repeat than it should.

A real golf club fitting identifies those mismatches and replaces guesswork with evidence.

HOW A PROPER FITTING WORKS

A good fitting is a process, not a product demonstration.

It starts with a conversation. Before any club gets recommended, we need to understand the golfer. What are you playing now? What ball flight do you see? What is your common miss? What are you trying to improve? Distance? Consistency? Height? Direction? Confidence?

From there, we establish a baseline using your current clubs. This is essential. Without a baseline, there is no honest comparison, no context, and no way to know whether a change is genuinely better or just temporarily flattering.

Then we begin testing, but in a controlled way. Different heads, shafts, lofts, lies, lengths and setups are tested methodically, usually by changing one variable at a time. The goal is not to create one perfect indoor shot. The goal is to improve your overall pattern.

That means looking at:

That is golf club fitting done properly.

WHAT MOST GOLFERS GET WRONG

Many golfers think fitting is mainly about finding a newer or more expensive club that goes farther.

That is not the standard.

A driver that produces one huge number but a worse shot pattern is not automatically better. An iron that flies farther but lands too flat to hold a green is not automatically better. A shaft that feels exciting for four swings but becomes unpredictable on the course is not automatically better.

Weak fitting often focuses on the most flattering number in the room. Good fitting focuses on what actually helps you score. That usually means paying attention to averages, patterns, strike consistency and playability rather than chasing the one shot that makes everyone in the bay feel briefly enlightened.

THE BUILD MATTERS AS MUCH AS THE FITTING

This is where many fittings quietly fall apart.

A golfer has a solid fitting. The recommendation makes sense. The numbers are good. The order gets placed. Then the clubs arrive and something feels off.

That happens because the final clubs do not always match the fitted specifications. Loft, lie, length, swing weight, shaft trimming, grip size, grip weight and manufacturing tolerances can all change the result.

A fitting only has value if the finished club matches the club that earned the recommendation.

That is why our philosophy is simple: fit properly, build properly, verify properly.

The fitting tells us what should work. The build has to preserve it. Without that, the process is incomplete.

HOW THEY WORK TOGETHER

Golf club fitting should not exist in a vacuum.

Sometimes the problem is clearly equipment-related. Sometimes the swing needs attention. Often, the truth is a mix of both. That is why our broader philosophy is always player first.

At Swing Shack and Stick, fitting and coaching support each other. Coaching helps us understand movement patterns, ball flight laws and what the player is actually doing. Fitting helps ensure the equipment suits that movement and does not make improvement harder than it needs to be.

The goal is not to choose clubs instead of coaching, or coaching instead of clubs, out of habit. The goal is to identify what helps the golfer most.

SHOULD YOU BOOK A GOLF CLUB FITTING?

Golf club fitting is valuable for:

If your clubs are fighting your swing, golf becomes unnecessarily complicated. A proper fitting can make the game simpler, more predictable, and more enjoyable.
